Sessions Applauds Passage of EPA Reform Bills

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 1422, the EPA Science Advisory Board Reform Act, and H.R. 4012, the Secret Science Reform Act:

“This week the House passed important legislation that would ensure that environmental regulations are crafted by unbiased experts who rely upon publicly available scientific data.  In order to reform the Environmental Protection Agency and prevent unnecessary regulations, this package would improve the process for selecting its expert advisors, expand transparency requirements, and require the EPA to show the work that serves as the foundation of its scientific findings.

“Currently the EPA does not disclose the data that inform federal regulations, many of which cost billions of taxpayer dollars, destroy jobs, and stifle economic growth.  If the EPA is relying upon sound science, it should have nothing to hide.  House Republicans have worked tirelessly to create greater transparency in the federal government and this legislation helps solve some of the shortcomings within the EPA.”
