Sessions Applauds Passage of Legislation to Rein In Out-of-Control EPA Proposal

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement on the House’s passage of the Ratepayer Protection Act, legislation to protect households and businesses from significant adverse effects on electricity reliability:

“The Obama administration has once again threatened to use the Environmental Protection Agency to enact a plan that would increase electricity rates for consumers without providing any actual benefit or addressing any real environmental need. The EPA has abused the lawmaking process to implement the administration’s climate agenda, which kills jobs and hurts wallets. This so-called clean energy plan is nothing but another executive branch power grab, and its negative effects will only raise electricity rates. With today’s passage of the Ratepayer Protection Act, we are taking a step toward providing balance and Congressional oversight to this proposed regulation in order to protect the American consumer.”
