Sessions Votes to Repeal Provision of Obamacare That Hurts America’s Seniors

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement in response to the House’s passage of legislation to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board, a provision within the Affordable Care Act that restricts seniors’ access to Medicare and allows unelected Washington bureaucrats to make decisions about cutting Medicare payments to doctors if their spending targets are not met:

“Unelected bureaucrats should not be making health decisions that are better left up to patients and their doctors. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what the Independent Payment Advisory Board in the Affordable Care Act would do by controlling physicians’ ability to properly care for Medicare patients. While I have voted to repeal Obamacare more than 50 times, I believe it is important to continue to chip away at the most harmful aspects of the president’s health law, which we know is bad for patients, bad for doctors, bad for insurers and bad for Americans everywhere. Today’s passage of the IPAB repeal is another step to do just that.”
