Sessions Applauds Passage of Native American Energy Act

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after House passage of a bill to facilitate the development of energy on Indian lands by reducing federal regulations that impede tribal development of such lands:

“The legislation that today passed the House creates a more equal playing field for tribes who wish to develop their own natural resources. Development of these lands is of upmost importance, but the federal government insists on standing in the way of a much-needed revenue stream. Tribes have been subject to more regulation and scrutiny than private and state landowners, which unfairly delays and sometimes halts the development of their resources. I voted today to streamline the bureaucratic processes, create jobs and increase our nation’s energy supply, and I call on the president to sign this bill into law.”
