Sessions Praises Bipartisan Legislation to Strengthen Higher Education

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement regarding this week’s House passage of H.R. 3136, the Advancing Competency-Based Education Demonstration Project Act, and H.R. 4984, the Empowering Students Through Enhanced Financial Counseling Act:

"The United States is home to the best higher education system in the world.  However, too many young Americans face unnecessary hurdles when it comes to the ever-increasing cost of college, the weight of student loan debt, and other complexities that act as barriers to higher education.  This week I was proud to support bipartisan legislation to help more Americans overcome these burdens and pursue a college education.

"The bills passed this week will provide students and their parents with the tools and information that they need to make informed borrowing decisions.  In addition, this legislation would deliver flexibility to higher education institutions that want to provide students with a more personalized and affordable education experience."
