Sessions Supports Legislation to Boost Charitable Giving

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 4719, the America Gives More Act

"The United States has a long history of helping those in need. Whether working with civic organizations, volunteering their time with local groups, or donating their money to support charities, Americans have always made helping others a priority. Today I was proud to support legislation that reaffirms that long-held tradition by permanently codifying provisions in the tax code that encourage and promote charitable giving.

"Each of these provisions has proven to increase charitable contributions and will greatly help philanthropic organizations continue to serve their communities, this nation, and the world.  I have long believed that private charities do a better job than the federal government in providing for those in need.

"I want to thank the Members of the Ways and Means Committee for their diligent work on this important legislation and I look forward to continuing to work with them on future initiatives that help more Americans give freely to their fellow citizens."
