Sessions Announces Rules Subcommittee Assignments for 114th Congress

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Committee on Rules, today announced the chairmen and Republican rosters of each of the two Rules subcommittees, which were formally approved today.

The Subcommittee on Legislative and Budget Process – which has jurisdiction over legislation regarding relations between Congress and the Executive Branch – will be chaired by Congressman Rob Woodall (R-GA). The Subcommittee on the Rules of the House – which has jurisdiction over legislation regarding the processes and procedures of the House, relations between the two houses of Congress, relations between Congress and the Judiciary, and internal operations of the House – will be chaired by Congressman Steve Stivers (R-OH).

“It is a pleasure to announce our new subcommittee chairmen and members,” Sessions said. “The assignments reflect the strengths and interests of each of our members who serve on our great committee, and I look forward to working with each subcommittee on the important issues we discuss in the Rules Committee each week.”

“Crafting quality legislation for the American people requires an effective and accountable process that reflects their priorities,” Woodall said. “Irrespective of subject matter, each piece of legislation produced by the House relies on the important work being done right here in the Rules Committee, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue my role in leading this effort.”

“I look forward to working with Chairman Sessions and fellow members of the Rules Committee to advance an agenda that will put American families first,” Stivers said. “It’s a great honor and responsibility to help shape the policy and debate on the issues that matter most.”

Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Congressmen Michael Burgess (R-TX), Bradley Byrne (R-AL) and Daniel Newhouse (R-WA) will serve with Chairman Woodall on the Subcommittee on Legislative and Budget Process.

Congressmen Doug Collins (R-GA), Byrne, Newhouse and Sessions will serve with Chairman Stivers on the Subcommittee on the Rules of the House.
