Sessions Applauds Passage of Surface Transportation Conference Report

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after the House’s passage of a bicameral, bipartisan agreement on surface transportation legislation that will help sustain roads, transit, bridges and rail systems in the U.S.:

“Adequately investing in and modernizing America’s roads and infrastructure must be a top priority for our government, and today’s vote represents Congress’ commitment to ensuring crumbling infrastructure does not get in the way of our recovering economy. Today’s conference report is the culmination of years of committee work, days of debate and consideration of more than 100 amendments on the floor, proving our renewed commitment to regular order here in the House. Most importantly, this multi-year, bicameral and bipartisan agreement – while not perfect – will create new, good-paying jobs all over the country. Maintaining a strong commitment to safety, providing for long-term certainty and more flexibility for states and local governments, streamlining project approval processes and creating good jobs are all wins in my book, which is why I was pleased to support this vital measure today.”
