Chairman Burgess Announces New Rules Committee Staff Director and Deputy Staff Director

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, released the following statement, announcing Jennifer Belair as the new Staff Director for the House Rules Committee and Steve Waskiewicz as Deputy Staff Director. 
 
“I am pleased to announce Jennifer Belair as the Rules Committee Staff Director and Steve Waskiewicz as Deputy Staff Director," said Chairman Burgess. "These two senior staffers have years of experience and extensive knowledge on the legislative processes of our powerful committee. On a daily basis, they have advised our committee on prioritizing policies that deliver to the needs of Americans across the nation. I am looking forward to seeing them succeed in this new role with much energy and determination to the Republican Commitment to America.”
 
Background:

  • Jennifer Belair has served as the Senior Professional Staff / Staff Director on the Subcommittee on Rules and Organization of the House. She also served as the Parliamentarian for the House Committee on Financial Services and worked for the Millennium Challenge Corporation. Jennifer has also been the Legislative Director and Rules Committee Associate for Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX) and former Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA), and as Deputy Parliamentarian for the House Judiciary Committee.

  • Steve Waskiewicz has been the Senior Professional Staff / Staff Director, Subcommittee on Legislative and Budget Process. He previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as the chief legislative liaison between the Committee on Appropriations and the Department and spent several years working on Medicare policy and reform for both the budget and appropriations processes. He also previously worked as the Rules Committee Associate in the personal office of Chairman Cole.
