Chairman Burgess Opening Remarks on H.R. 1449 and 9495

Good afternoon.  

House Republicans promised the American people that we would cut bureaucratic red tape, put our economy on the right track, and lower energy costs. Securing American energy independence was a monumental achievement of the last Trump Administration. An achievement squandered by the Biden-Harris Administration and Congressional Democrats over the last four years. 

Securing American energy independence is the cornerstone of incoming President Trump and House Republican’s agenda. Geothermal is a renewable source that can and should represent a vital part of the broader domestic energy portfolio. 

Unfortunately, bureaucratic hurdles remain to further realize the potential of this domestic power source. All too often American potential is squandered because of regulation for regulation’s sake. We have a lot of work to do to break down the vast matrix of red tape, paperwork, unaccountable decision-makers, and regulatory costs imposed over the last four years. 

But today is a small, first step of many to – once again – unleash America’s energy potential.
