Sessions Supports Financial Services Appropriations Act

July 8, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 5485, the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act, 2017:

“Today’s measure responsibly invests hard earned taxpayer dollars into programs that promote opportunity, grow our economy and enforce our laws. In addition to spending $2.7 billion below the President’s request, this bill also cuts funding for the IRS by $236 million – putting their funding below 2008 levels – prohibits them from targeting groups based on their ideological beliefs and stops the agency from further implementing ObamaCare. I proudly supported this pro-growth bill to efficiently invest in necessary programs that streamline regulations, bolster our economy and contribute to the overall financial health of our country.”
