Chairman Sessions Applauds Passage of Zika Response Appropriations Act

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement on the House’s passage of a bill to fund international and domestic efforts to combat Zika:

“Zika is a real and devastating threat to the United States and nations abroad, and today the House acted to fund efforts to fight and prevent the spread of Zika. Immediate action is necessary to protect the most vulnerable among us, pregnant woman and infants especially, from contracting this virus. Funding in this bill is available immediately, and would support the development, testing and distribution of a vaccine or treatment for Zika.

“This bill is fully offset by using unobligated funding from the Ebola outbreak and unused administrative funding for the Department of Health and Human Services. By ensuring a responsible and effective use of taxpayer dollars, the House has paved a path toward stopping the spread of this virus and protecting American families.”
