Important Amtrak Reforms Included in THUD Appropriations

Washington, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 2577, the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act:

“House Republicans once again acted to protect taxpayers’ pocketbooks, while making sure the neediest among us are taken care of and our nation’s roads and infrastructure are safe. This legislation serves as an example of the results that can be had when we prioritize necessary programs and make cuts to frivolous spending. I am especially pleased that wise reforms are made to Amtrak, including limiting employees overtime and restricting federal funds from being used on routes where Amtrak offers a 50% or more discount from normal, peak fares."
