Sessions Applauds Court’s Decision to Defend and Protect the Constitution

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement in response to the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia’s ruling in favor of House Republican’s challenge against the Obama administration’s spending under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:

“Last year I proudly authorized a resolution to initiate a lawsuit on behalf of the House of Representatives against the Obama administration because it failed to faithfully execute the law with respect to the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Today the District Court of the District of Colombia ruled not only in favor of our lawsuit, but in favor of our constitutional system and the American people who are represented by Congress.

“Judge Collyer’s decision confirms exactly what the House set out to prove nearly two years ago  that the President does not have the constitutional authority to ignore the will of the people, unilaterally rewrite our nation’s laws, and spend money that Congress never appropriated. I applaud the court’s decision and will continue to vigorously protect our Constitution, preserve the balance of power, and hold this Administration accountable for their lawless actions.”
