Sessions Applauds Passage of Republican Budget for FY 2016

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement on the House passage of H.Con. Res 27, the budget resolution for fiscal year 2016 which also sets forth appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2017 through 2025:

“The House today passed a budget that is a blueprint for how to get our economy back on track while expanding opportunity for the American people. Instead of sticking to the Democrats’ plan of higher taxes, increased spending and more debt, House Republicans believe it is time to chart a new path.  Chairman Price’s budget provides for a sound fiscal future by balancing the budget in less than 10 years – without raising taxes – and cutting spending by $5.5 trillion, which is more than any previously adopted Republican budget.

“This budget also proposes necessary reforms to costly entitlement programs, calls for a full repeal of Obamacare and provides for a strong national defense. The President’s budget, by contrast, never balances, raises taxes on American families already struggling to make ends meet and piles more debt on the shoulders of our children. This is immoral and should not continue.

“I applaud the passage of the House budget because it includes tough but necessary proposals that spur job creation and promote the free enterprise system over the priorities of liberal Washington bureaucrats, which for too long have caused Americans nothing but harm.”
