Sessions Applauds Passage of Rule on Tribal Labor Sovereignty and Reforming Auto Financing Guidance

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after the House voted to adopt a resolution that sets up final passage of two bills, H.R. 511, the Tribal Labor Sovereignty Act, and H.R. 1737, the Reforming CFPB Indirect Auto Financing Guidance Act:

“Today’s rule clears the way for passage of two important bills that take essential steps towards eliminating federal red tape that only gets in the way of individual liberty and governance. The Tribal Labor Sovereignty Act would restore tribal governments’ ability to make their own decisions when it comes to labor policies—like all federal, state, and local governments—instead of being controlled by Washington bureaucrats who assume tribes are incapable of developing laws and institutions to protect the rights of employees who work on their lands. The Reforming CFPB Indirect Auto Financing Guidance Act ensures the consumer, not the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, will have the ability to call the shots when it comes to shopping for, negotiating and financing a car loan that best suits their own needs, bringing them one step closer to owning a vehicle.

“I was pleased with the testimony we heard before the Rules Committee this week on both of these important measures as well as the robust debate that occurred on the House floor. The passage of these two bills will be a win for individual liberty, a win for the economy and a win for American families.”
