Sessions Disapproves Ambush Elections Rule

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement on the House passage of a measure (S.J. Res. 8) expressing disproval of the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) “ambush rule,” which expedites union elections and forces employers to give substantial personal information about their employees to unions without consent or confidentiality standards in place:

“The NLRB’s ambush rule cripples the rights of hard working Americans to make careful, informed decisions about whether to join a union by providing them with significantly less time to decide how they will vote. It virtually eliminates the possibility of an employer obtaining a labor attorney to ensure unionization efforts are done lawfully since the notification and the election could occur in as few as seven days. Even worse, it does all of this while significantly compromising the privacy of workers and their families.

“These are not policies that help the American worker and bolster the economy; they are policies that are part of a culture of union favoritism that does nothing but harm. I am pleased the House voted today to preserve the rights of workers to make informed and independent decisions and keep their personal information private.”
