Sessions: House Acts to Unleash American Energy and Create Jobs

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 6, the Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act; H.R. 3301, the North American Energy Infrastructure Act; and H.R. 4899, the Lowering Gasoline Prices to Fuel an America that Works Act of 2014:

"At a time when far too many Americans are still looking for work, the federal government should promote job creation by removing unnecessary hurdles to the production and sale of domestic energy supplies.  That is why I was proud to support important legislation this week that would unleash North American energy production, lower prices at the pump, strengthen our international partnerships, and create much-needed jobs at home.

"The Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act is a bipartisan bill that expedites the Department of Energy’s slow, antiquated approval process for applications to export liquefied natural gas. This bill capitalizes on our country’s natural gas boom while supplying our allies abroad with a reliable source of energy.

"Another bipartisan bill passed by the House this week, the North American Energy Infrastructure Act, promotes job creation by removing unnecessary government hurdles to domestic energy development and international trade.  Lastly, the Lowering Gasoline Prices to Fuel an America that Works Act eases pain at the pump by expanding the production of America’s own energy resources. Currently, President Obama has locked up over 85% of our energy-rich offshore areas from production. This bill reverses those policies and allows us to move forward with offshore energy production that will create thousands of good-paying American jobs.

"Our work this week underscores House Republicans’ continued commitment to an 'all-of-the-above' energy approach to create jobs and boost U.S. energy security.  I urge Senate Democrats and the White House to join us in embracing America’s energy revolution."
