WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after House passage of a bill that prohibits the lifting of economic sanctions against Iran until it pays court-ordered damages owed to terror victims:
“The Obama administration’s so-called deal with Iran is no deal at all. Rather, it is a gift to a country that has a long history of state-sponsored terror. It is an unfortunate reality that the victims of such terror are still owed legal damages amounting to $43 billion. I am adamantly opposed to this “deal,” and it is unfathomable that the president would take steps to pump money into Iran’s economy before innocent Americans have received from Iran what they are owed. This common sense piece of legislation stops sanctions from being lifted against Iran until these damages are paid, and it is a step toward reversing course on the President’s historic mistake.”
