Sessions: Keystone XL Pipeline Would Create Jobs & Bolster Energy Security

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement regarding H.R. 3 – the Northern Route Approval Act, legislation that eliminates the need for presidential approval and streamlines the permit process to begin construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline:

“For far too long, the Obama Administration has delayed approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline – a project that would create tens of thousands of jobs, bolster our energy security, and inject billions of dollars into our economy. The House’s action today clears political road blocks and bureaucratic hurdles to jump-start the approval process that has been marred by the President’s indecision and unnecessary delays.

“The Keystone XL Pipeline would transport over 800,000 barrels of oil every day, which is equivalent to nearly half of our daily oil imports from the Middle East. By approving this project, we will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and create much-needed jobs. North Texans should not have to keep waiting for the President to approve this job-creating project and I’m pleased that the House has taken this step today to build a brighter future for our nation.”
