Sessions: Passage of Military Construction Spending Bill Emphasizes Need to Fix Problems within VA

Washington, DC – Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement on the House’s passage of H.R. 2029, the FY 2016 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act:

“The House today did its job by funding agencies committed to ensuring our military and military bases around the world are well equipped to carry out their missions successfully, while also providing housing and services for the families of our men and women in uniform. But today’s vote also served as an important reminder that our Veterans Affairs programs nationwide – and particularly the VA hospitals in my home state of Texas – have failed our veterans who risked their lives for our democracy. It is my sincerest hope that the resources included in today’s bill go toward improving the systemic problems that are still permeating the VA, which are not only unacceptable, but deplorable. As a Congress and as a nation, we simply must do better.”
