Sessions Statement on the Passing of Ranking Member Louise Slaughter

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, released the following statement regarding the passing the Committee’s Ranking Member, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter:

“This morning our Rules Committee family received heartbreaking news about the passing of our dear friend and  colleague, the Ranking Member of our Committee, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter from Rochester, New York. As the first female Chairwoman of our Committee she was a force to be reckoned with who always brought her spunk, fire, and dynamic leadership to every meeting. Louise was a fearless leader, deeply committed to her constituents, and a dear friend. I have had the immense privilege of working side by side with her for the past 20 years. I will always cherish our friendship, comradery, and of course her rhubarb pie. Although we sat on different sides of the aisle, I have always considered her a partner and have the utmost respect for her. On behalf of the entire Rules Committee, I offer our  prayers and deepest sympathies to her family, staff members, and all who knew and loved her.”
