Sessions statement on TPA: House Republicans stand ready to empower American businesses

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement on the introduction of legislation to reauthorize Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), The Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015:

“Passing Trade Promotion Authority is a top priority for House Republicans because it is a vital part of our free trade agenda. Increased trade will help grow the economy and create good-paying jobs by giving Americans the ability to sell more goods and services to customers abroad. TPA is particularly important to Texas because our state has lead the nation in exports for more than a decade. Texas exported nearly $300 billion worth of goods in 2014, which supported 1.1 million jobs in our state alone. Furthermore, TPA empowers Congress to give the administration its marching orders as it negotiates trade agreements across the globe.

“House Republicans stand ready to empower American businesses, workers and consumers by building additional trade relationships across the globe. Without TPA, good trade agreements are not possible. I thank Chairman Paul Ryan on his leadership in securing this hard-fought agreement. I look forward to working to get this legislation signed into law so that we can break down the barriers that are standing in the way of creating more jobs here at home.”
