Sessions Supports House Resolution Authorizing Speaker to File Amicus Brief in U.S. v. Texas Case

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions, Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after House Speaker Paul Ryan announced that the House will consider a resolution authorizing the Speaker to file an amicus brief in the United States v. Texas litigation in the coming weeks:

“I continue to strongly believe that President Obama’s unwise, unlawful and unconstitutional executive amnesty program will do nothing but harm to the American economy and our way of life. As chairman of the House Rules Committee, which will have original jurisdiction over this resolution, I am glad the House of Representatives is supporting the state of Texas in this lawsuit. We can and must use every tool at our disposal to block the president’s unconstitutional, liberal amnesty plans, and this amicus brief is an important first step towards that goal.”

United States v. Texas is an upcoming United States Supreme Court case involving the constitutionality of President Obama’s Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) program, which he announced via executive order in November of 2014. The program would grant deferred action to illegal immigrants who are the parents of children born in the United States. Sessions, an outspoken opponent of illegal amnesty, has taken repeated action to block the president’s unlawful actions. To read more about his efforts on this issue, click here.
