Sessions Votes to Empower States, Reduce Regulatory Burdens

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement following the House’s passage of a bill to amend the Solid Waste Disposal Act allowing states to establish permit programs:

“Throughout my time in Congress, I have fought against bureaucracy and for a smaller, more streamlined government that supports private sector job creation. The legislation passed today codifies regulations put in place by the EPA and creates a more effective permitting system regarding the disposal of coal ash. This effort would create more certainty for businesses, avoid unnecessary litigation and would save approximately 316,000 jobs in the United States. Today, the House of Representatives acted to give states the ability to implement permit programs that make sense in their communities, and I applaud the passage of this important legislation.”
