Sessions Votes to Fight Lawsuit Abuse

Washington, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement on the House’s passage of a bill to improve attorney accountability:

“Across the United States of America there are instances in which lawyers file frivolous lawsuits, taking advantage of our judiciary system in order to make a profit. Many of these lawsuits impact ordinary Americans and small business owners who have done no harm, but are socked with high legal expenses and are forced to spend time away from their families and work fighting meritless claims. This legislation ensures that there are mandatory penalties for those who file lawsuits with legally baseless claims and holds attorneys accountable for their actions. I applaud passage of this important bill and the protections it would give to innocent Americans.”
