WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, released the following statement in response to the passage of a short-term funding measure:
“In September the House passed all 12 appropriations bills to fund the government before the end of the fiscal year. Although the House completed our work, the Senate was unable to guide the legislation through their chamber forcing us to have to rely on a stop gap measure. While I am disappointed that we have to use these tactics, I believe it is critical that we keep government operations open and functioning. We cannot put politics above funding the government, especially funding our military.
“Although this measure is just for two weeks, I am pleased that we are addressing funding for the critical CHIP program. This measure ensures the states that are experiencing a shortfall of funds for the program will be taken care of through the end of the year. Once again, the House passed legislation to reauthorize the CHIP program and we are still waiting on our Senate colleagues to act.”
“I sincerely hope my friends in the Senate step up to the plate and address these important issues. Our military and the wellbeing of millions of American children are dependent on their action. The House has continued to complete our work on behalf of the American people, now it’s time for our Senate colleagues do the same.”
