Sessions Votes to Give Terminally Ill Patients Hope

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, has released the following statement applauding the passage of a measure that authorizes the use of eligible investigational drugs by patients who have been diagnosed with certain illnesses, exhausted approved treatment options and are not eligible to participate in a clinical trial:

“Bureaucracy has held back a number of things in our country, but hope and life should not be among them.  For the thousands of Americans who are suffering from terminal illnesses, hope is usually not something that they have when they receive the news that their life could be cut short in a matter of months. Well, today, House Republicans voted to provide these terminally ill patients with just that – hope.  If there is a drug available that has the ability to cure or prolong one’s life, patients should have the opportunity to access it. That is why I proudly voted to create a new, responsible pathway for patients to have the opportunity to access these potentially lifesaving treatments."
