Sessions votes for private sector innovation, improving the competitiveness of the United States

Washington, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after voting in favor of the America COMPETES Act, a fiscally responsible bill authorizing necessary scientific research while staying within the cap set in the Budget Control Act for FY16:

“Today I voted in support of a fiscally responsible measure that would prioritize scientific programs while cutting funds to activities that should be left to the free market and private sector businesses. I joined fellow House Republicans to support the basic scientific research that cultivates private sector technological advances that lead to increased innovation. Prioritizing STEM education and scientific development will have positive impacts on our economy and is critical to improving the competitiveness of the United States.”
