Sessions Votes to Protect Brick Industry from Burdensome EPA Rule

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after voting in favor of the Blocking Regulatory Interference from Closing Kilns Act, which would extend the compliance dates of the final 2015 Brick MACT rule pending judicial review:

“Brick makers are very often generations-old family owned and operated establishments, and this rule has made it nearly impossible for them to borrow capital, install necessary equipment and create jobs. Instead, the costs they cannot afford because of this misguided rule are transferred to the consumer, which only stifles economic growth. We must do what we can to allow an industry that employs more than 7,000 people in 38 states to survive. Simply put, small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and this measure takes an important step toward allowing the brick industry to continue to produce without burdensome red tape from the federal government.”
