Sessions Votes to Protect Small Businesses from Government Regulations and Expand Internet Service

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after voting in favor of a measure that would ensure that small business providers of broadband Internet can devote their limited resources to broadband deployment, rather than compliance with onerous regulatory requirements:

“Small and rural Internet providers are essential to families across Texas and the nation that might not have another choice when it comes to Internet access. The Internet has allowed our society to advance in ways once thought unfathomable, and all Americans should have reliable access to such an important creation. Unlike larger or national Internet service providers, small providers simply don’t have the bandwidth to comply with onerous federal regulations, which jeopardize their ability to succeed. Every dollar spent on unnecessary regulatory compliance is one dollar that is not being spent on new hires, network upgrades, and expansion by these small businesses. I was proud to vote in support of this legislation and urge President Obama to swiftly sign it into law.”
