Sessions Votes to Repeal Core Parts of ObamaCare, Defund Planned Parenthood

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after voting in favor of a budget reconciliation package that will repeal major parts of the Affordable Care Act, defund Planned Parenthood and invest in community health centers:

“The president’s health care law has been bad for American families, businesses, physicians and our economy. I have voted to repeal the law in its entirety more than 50 times because I believe it is a damaging policy that fails on every level to provide affordable, quality care for the millions of Americans who need it.

“Today’s reconciliation package is the best chance we have to repeal the most destructive parts of the law – the individual mandate, the employer mandate, the medical device tax and the Cadillac tax – as well as defund Planned Parenthood and invest in community health centers that help women all over America get the care they need. I applaud the hard work of the three committees of jurisdiction on this bill, and I will continue to do all I can to gut this historically bad law that has made something that should be simple – accessing quality care – far too difficult and far too expensive.”
