Sessions Votes to Save the 40 Hour Work Week

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 30, The Save American Workers Act:

“Today the House passed a bill that would restore the 40 hour work week and protect American workers from a particularly onerous ObamaCare regulation. Currently, the Affordable Care Act mandates that businesses provide healthcare for all of their full-time employees, which they define as those who work 30 hours a week instead of the traditional 40 hours a week.  Because of the costly implications of this rule, many employers have had no choice but to cut workers’ hours so that they do not count as full-time employees, which leaves them with less take-home pay. This bill would protect businesses and shield millions of hourly employees from unnecessary cuts in their hours and pay by restoring the traditional 40 hour work week.

“The Save American Workers Act will provide much needed financial stability for American families and businesses. In the new American Congress I look forward to working with my Republican colleagues to continue to pass legislation designed to grow the economy and create jobs.”
