Sessions: We Have A Duty To Our Troops

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, released the following statement applauding the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2018

"At a time when our world has become an increasingly dangerous place, our military needs to be robust, strong, and ready. Our military leaders have repeatedly voiced their concerns that over the past half-decade our forces have been pared down to skeletal levels which has stretched resources and personnel far too thin. As Members of Congress, we have a constitutional duty to ensure that our men and women on the front lines have the resources they need to effectively protect our citizens both at home and abroad. I am proud to say that we fulfilled that duty with the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2018.This package responsibly uses tax payer dollars to rebuild the strength of our military, ensure they have the tools they need, and makes sure that we are taking care of the men and women who serve - including a much deserved pay raise for all members of the armed forces.

"I am extremely proud of this measure because it is the result of hours of debate, productive dialogue with Members from both sides of the aisle, and especially the hard work of Chairman Mac Thornberry and the rest of the House Committee on Armed Services. In addition, I am pleased to report that we had a robust debate in the Rules Committee, and made 210 amendments in order for consideration - the most amendments we have ever made in order for NDAA. This goes to show that if we continue to work together, we get the best ideas to make a good product even better. I proudly supported this critical measure so we can continue to support our troops who valiantly serve and protect our great nation."
